Work performed

In house

Composite deck with grey boards and a white vinyl railing running alongside a sunroom

Repairs, replacements and new builds, in pressure-treated lumber or low-maintenance composite.

What we do with decks

Decks fail from the ground up. Posts rot at grade, ledger flashing lets water into the rim joist, and the boards are usually the last thing to go. When we look at a deck we start underneath it, because that is what decides whether you need a repair or a replacement.

We build in pressure-treated lumber and in composite decking with vinyl railing, including stairs, landings and railings brought up to current code.

If the frame is sound we will tell you so and re-deck it. If it is not, you will get a straight price for a proper rebuild rather than a cheap patch that fails again in two years.

1

We start underneath

Posts, footings, ledger and flashing get checked first, because that is what decides between a repair and a replacement.

2

Timber or composite

Pressure-treated lumber or low-maintenance composite decking with vinyl railing, whichever suits the house and the budget.

3

Stairs and railings to code

Rebuilt stair stringers, landings and guardrails brought up to current code as part of the job.

From first call to finished job

Four steps, no runaround. The person who quotes your job is the person who builds it.

STEP 01

Call or Email

Tell us what you are dealing with. You speak to Eddie directly, not a call centre or a salesman.

STEP 02

We Come Look

We walk the job in person, measure it, and find out what is actually behind the walls before quoting.

STEP 03

Written Estimate

You get a clear price for the work in writing, with no obligation and nothing buried in the fine print.

STEP 04

We Build It

Our own crew starts the work and stays on it. The people who quoted the job are the people who do it.

Why people call us back

A licensed local contractor who quotes the job honestly, does the work with his own crew, and picks up the phone afterwards.

Question? Answered

Licensing, who does the work, and how to get a price. Browse the answers below.

Yes. Merrill Construction holds Maryland Home Improvement Commission licence MHIC #164814 and carries insurance for both commercial and residential work. The licence number is on our truck, our estimates and the bottom of this page, so you can verify it before you hire us.

No. All work is performed in house with local talent. On the custom tile bathroom in our portfolio, every part of that remodel was self-performed, from tearing it down to bare studs and floor joists through to the finished tile. Keeping the trades under one roof is how the schedule and the standard stay under our control.

Kitchens, bathrooms, decks, roofing, siding, windows and doors, interior remodeling, framing and commercial work. That covers everything from a roof repair or a deck rebuild through to a full structural remodel where walls come out and steel goes in.

Yes, both. We work on homes and on commercial buildings, including storefront and athletic facility work. Whichever it is, the same crew and the same standard apply.

Yes, structural work is part of what we do. On a 1908 gambrel house we opened the balloon-framed walls around a cramped kitchen and carried the load on a steel I-beam, turning three rooms into one. If you want a wall gone, we will tell you honestly what it is holding up and what it takes to remove it.

Call 443-547-4559 or email eddie@merrill-construction.com and tell us what you need. We come out, look at the actual conditions, and give you a written estimate for the work. There is no charge for the estimate and no obligation to go ahead.
