Bathrooms are the job most likely to hide a problem behind the tile, so we take them back far enough to see it.

What a bathroom remodel covers

Our custom tile bathroom remodel came out to bare studs and floor joists before anything new went in. Every stage after that was self-performed, from the framing and waterproofing through to the finished tile work.

That build included a custom tiled shower with a WiFi-connected controller, so the shower can be started remotely or by voice, holds twelve preset settings, and runs an LED exhaust fan with WiFi and music built in.

Not every bathroom needs to go that far. A new shower, a retiled floor or a full gut are all work we take on, and we will tell you honestly which one your room actually needs.

Gut to finished product

Where a room needs it, we take it to bare studs and floor joists so nothing rotten or undersized gets tiled over.

Custom tile work

Tiled shower surrounds, niches, benches and pebble floors, set by our own tile work rather than subcontracted out.

Smart shower systems

WiFi shower controllers with remote and voice start, twelve presets, and LED exhaust fans with WiFi and music.

Licensing, who does the work, and how to get a price. Browse the answers below.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Merrill Construction holds Maryland Home Improvement Commission licence MHIC #164814 and carries insurance for both commercial and residential work. The licence number is on our truck, our estimates and the bottom of this page, so you can verify it before you hire us.

Do you subcontract the work out?

No. All work is performed in house with local talent. On the custom tile bathroom in our portfolio, every part of that remodel was self-performed, from tearing it down to bare studs and floor joists through to the finished tile. Keeping the trades under one roof is how the schedule and the standard stay under our control.

What kind of work do you take on?

Kitchens, bathrooms, decks, roofing, siding, windows and doors, interior remodeling, framing and commercial work. That covers everything from a roof repair or a deck rebuild through to a full structural remodel where walls come out and steel goes in.

Do you handle commercial jobs as well as houses?

Yes, both. We work on homes and on commercial buildings, including storefront and athletic facility work. Whichever it is, the same crew and the same standard apply.

Can you open up walls and change the layout?

Yes, structural work is part of what we do. On a 1908 gambrel house we opened the balloon-framed walls around a cramped kitchen and carried the load on a steel I-beam, turning three rooms into one. If you want a wall gone, we will tell you honestly what it is holding up and what it takes to remove it.
